PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NEWS - 2010 is now upon us and PMA has lots of exciting learning opportunities available for you.

Flyers for each of these events has already been sent to all members and all sites in SA. If you would like more info about any of them please contact our office on primarymaths@bigpond.com OR on 8182 3288

FULL DAY CONFERENCES FOR EY-MY EDUCATORS

1) PLANNING FOR LEARNING in 2010 - This full day conference is being offered on Friday January 22nd, on the "pre-student" days. It is designed as a great learning opportunity for whole staff groups to atttend. Participants will leave the day having explored a clear framework for planning for mathematics in 2010.

THIS CONFERENCE IS NOW FULL. It is being repeated on Saturday 13rh March, see below

2) PLANNING FOR LEARNING IN 2010 - A repeat of the full day conference offered in January. Participants wil leave the day having explored a clear framework for planning for mathematics in 2010.

DATE : Saturday 13th MARCH, 9-3pm, EDC

3) TERM CONFERENCES - one of these are held each term (two in term three) from 9-3pm. They provide a smorgasbord of workshops presented by practioners, curriculum leaders and university lecturers.

TERM THREE - Saturday 31st July, EDC

TERM THREE - Friday 3rd September, EDC

SUPPORTING LEADERS

1) LEADING SITE IMPROVEMENT THROUGH ACHIEVEMENT IN NUMERACY - this is a twelve hour course that provides support for leaders to develop and implement a plan for improvement in mathematics and numeracy. Two courses are available in early 2010. Courses can also be arranged in your local region on request.

METRO DAY SERIES - TERM ONE

METRO EVENING SERIES - TERM ONE/TWO/THREE

Mondays 8th Feb, 15th Mar, 19th Apr, 24th May, 21st Jun, 2nd Aug - 5-7pm at EDC

2) SUPPORTING LEADERS - more than one hundred leaders attended the "Leading Site Improvement Through Achievement in Numeracy" course in 2009. To support these leaders PMA is offering some followup sessions for these participants only across the year. Session are from 4.30-7pm and will be held at EDC.

'SUPPORTING PRESCHOOL EDUCATORS IN MATHEMATICS AND NUMERACY

1) This series of eight three hour sessions is designed to support educators and teams of staff to evaluate their current practice, to extend their personal knowledge and to explore effective strategies for implementing mathematics and numeracy into the preschool play setting.

Topics addressed in the eight sessions in each series include:

Getting Started with Mathematics and Numeracy in the Preschool Setting

Planning for Measurement learning in the preschool setting

Planning for Spatial Sense learning in the preschool setting

Planning for Number Sense learning in the preschool setting

Planning for Pattern Sense learning in the preschool setting

Planning for Datahandling learning in the preschool setting

Planning for the Assessment of Mathematics and Numeracy in the Preschool setting

Building Connections with Families and Communities with Mathematics and Numeracy

The first series will be offered in term one on Saturday mornings. Other courses can be offered at alternative times and locations on request

SATURDAY MORNING SERIES - 9-12, at EDC

2) More than 150 preschool educators have attended the PMA Preschool 8 part course in the last two years. To support these educators further PMA is offering a targeted planning session for them on MONDAY 18th JANUARY from 9-12 noon to be held at Eastern Adelaide Regional Office, Briar Road, Felixstow.

The session will focus on equipping participants to have their plan in place for mathematics and numeracy for 2010.

3) PRESCHOOL LEADERS - " Leading your staff to plan for an effective mathematics and numeracy learning programme in YOUR preschool setting in 2010" - this session will support preschool leaders to make a positive start to planning for 2010.

WHEN - Saturday 30th January, 9-12 at EDC

4) PRESCHOOL LEARNING EXPO - this full day conference will provide preschool participants with the chance to choose from a smorgasbord of workshops that provide ideas and challenges around the topics of implementing effective mathematics and numeracy learning in the preschool setting.

WHEN : Friday 9th April (1st week of the school holidays), 9-3pm at EDC

PLANNING AND ASSESSING FOR LEARNING WITH THE BIG IDEAS IN ALL STRANDS

This series of six workshops is designed to support EY- MY educators in developing an understanding of the big ideas in each strand and how they can be used to develop and implement an effective mathematics learning programme.

There are three series being offered in the early part of 2010

OTHER SERVICES AVAILABLE IN 2010

PMA IS PLEASED TO OFFER THE FOLLOWING SERVICES AGAIN in 2010. PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE TO DISCUSS DETAILS

MENTORING SESSIONS - PMA offers a mentoring service to individuals and/or small teams of educators and /or leaders for personalised learning assistance in developing/leading their Mathematics and Numeracy learning programmes. Flyers have been sent to all sites, and further details can be accessed by contacting the PMA office

CONSULTANCY SERVICE - PMA offers a consultancy service to sites, clusters and District groups. Through this service they are able to provide personalised fee-based service on your site to target your individual needs perhaps through a staff meeting, series of staff meetings, mentoring programme or on a staff training day. Please contact the PMA office for details of this service.

WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS in 2009! - PMA is pleased to again offer this opportunity again to member sites in 2010! PMA is able to provide a skilled and experienced presenter to run a parent workshop at your site at a nominated time of your choice. Sessions are usually around ninety minutes in length and focus on exploring issues such as What is Mathematics, what is numeracy and how parents can help their learners at home.

These sessions are suitable for all sites from preschool to Middle Years, and a flyer detailing costs and other arrangements is available from the PMA office.

THE PUBLICATION SUB-COMMITTEE IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING ITS FRAMEWORK FOR 2010 AND WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IN REGARDS TO PARTICULAR TOPICS OR AREAS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE ADDRESSED. LET THEM KNOW YOUR IDEAS AND INTERESTS BY EMAILING THE PMA OFFICE

The first PMA journal for 2010 will be out in the week commencing the 11th January
